Rode my Singlespeed up to the 17 Mile mark on Mt Lemmon this afternoon, lots of snow beside the road. It was really chilly on the descent but very pretty with the snow in the pine trees

325 Mile AZ Road ride – Answer to the Challenge

I just signed up for this ride

At 325 miles, Answer to the Challenge will confront you with three consecutive days of century riding. Along the way you’ll be asked to do over 22,000 feet of climbing and the weather can range anywhere from cold and wet to hot and dry – and probably will.

The route takes you from Scottsdale to Strawberry on day one. Day two continues on to Prescott over Mingus Mountain. Day three takes you from Prescott back to Scottsdale. The scenery along the way is some of the best that Arizona has to offer.

There are three types of riders who attempt this ride. The racers start at first light, stop only for Cytomax and water and arrive in beautiful downtown Strawberry (population 35) ready for a full afternoon of activities. The tourists actually take time to look at the great scenery, enjoy the generous sag stops, and arrive just early enough for a nap before dinner. The clueless realize at mile 45 on the first day that they should be somewhere else.

Don’t be clueless. This ride covers 325 miles and 22,000 feet of climbing over three days. The first day from Scottsdale to Strawberry climbs about 10,000 ft. The second day to Prescott climbs another 6,600 ft. and crosses the inevitably windy Prescott Valley. Distance on the third day is 127 miles. Be prepared for cold in the mountains and heat crossing the desert. And sometimes (rarely) snow.

12 Hours At Night

12 Hours At Night in Prescott July 17-18, 2010

Cool 12 hour night mtb race

http://www.go-ar.com/12han.html

Saturday July 17-18
I did it last year which was the inaugural event. Cool format for us folks in Southern AZ, race starts at 8pm Saturday night and finishes at 8am Sunday morning just as it starts warming up. The promoter Dave is a really nice guy and a Prescott local.

It was a really nice course with a mixture of singletrack, doubletrack and dirt road, with a couple of manageable climbs. Great race for folks just getting into endurance racing as the course doesn’t beat you up too much and you can turn some really fast laps (some of the team riders did sub 36 minute laps and solos were able to get a few 38 min laps in). Good race for teams with new riders as the field spreads out quickly as it is a smaller event and it’s easy to overtake in many places.

I’m sponsoring them this year and they have a raffle with plenty of schwag from their sponsors at the end of the race and we’ll be contributing lighting products and helping with the charging station.

Great course for singlespeeds, I’m looking forward to it.
Cheers Reade
